Year 2 English – Beanstalk Inspiration

Posted: 10th June 2022

This week we have been thinking about the bean plants we have grown and discussing the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. We have thought about the story from different perspectives:  was the giant really so bad? Was Jack perhaps a little naughty for taking the giant’s precious things? Perhaps the villain of the story was the man who gave Jack the beans for his cow?

We decided who we thought was the naughtiest character and wrote ‘Wanted’ posters with the reasons for our choices.

“The Giant is wanted because he is bad-tempered, mean, aggressive and tried to murder Jack, an innocent boy!” Theseas

“Jack is wanted because he has stolen a harp, a chicken, a bag of money and robbed a complete stranger!” Leo

“The old man is wanted because he tricked an innocent person, named Jack, by giving him magical beans that cause a lot of trouble!” Edward

“The Giant is very, very big and old with a big grey beard. He is extremely mean!” Teddy

“Jack is a boy who is wanted for stealing money, a hen who lays golden eggs and a harp. He is mischievous, naughty and careless!” Joe
