Year 8 have been learning about the Loci (marking the area which satisfies certain conditions). We took their learning outside and made the theory come to life by solving the real-world examples on the field and in the yard using a measuring tape and chalk.
Here is one of the questions they had to solve: in my garden there are 2 trees; an apple tree and a beech tree. The distance between them is 3m. I would like to plant an ornamental tree and it must be closer to the apple tree than the beech tree. The ornamental tree must be no more than 2 meters from the beech tree. Mark the area where I can place my ornamental tree.
