On the evening of Saturday 17 February, 32 pupils and 4 members of staff assembled with much excitement and anticipation for the Holmwood House Ski Trip; the first in many years (only Mrs Baker can remember the last one!).
As soon as the coach was loaded up with bags and pupils, we began our journey to Italy. We had a smooth journey down to Dover where we got on the ferry, which was a fun experience. The children enjoyed exploring duty free and checking out the outside deck to admire the views, which were a little limited given the late crossing.
After an early breakfast in France, we quickly found ourselves in the resort of La Thuile for our boot and ski fitting and our first glimpse of the slopes.
We had a fantastic week, with some beautiful weather – blue skies and sunshine – and an impressive white out on day 4. All of our pupils made incredible progress, learning new skills or honing existing ones. The variety of pistes in La Thuile was incredible and several of us had the chance to criss-cross the border between Italy and France.
In the afternoons and evenings we had apres-ski activities; ranging from crepes and karaoke to ice skating and bum-boarding. The food was outstanding, with evening dinners seeing traditional Italian dishes that left us all very stuffed. And, of course, we managed to fit a few gelatos in here and there.
Despite exhausted staff and pupils when we returned at the end of half term, we can definitely say the trip was a resounding success and we look forward to launching Ski 2026 next February for pupils who will be in Year 7 and above.
