The Year 3’s Extreme Earth topic was brought to life recently with an exciting Global Studies lesson involving a Zoom call to Melbourne in Australia! Eivissa’s Auntie Laura is a nurse in Melbourne and on the 22 September an earthquake measuring 6 on the Richter Scale hit the city causing damage to buildings. This was one of Australia’s biggest earthquakes on record but luckily there were very few serious injuries. The Year 3 children were lucky enough to have the opportunity to interview Laura and Shelley about their experience and find out what an earthquake really feels like. The children had planned some super questions to ask Laura and Shelley and were fascinated to hear all about the earthquake.
” The earthquake sounded like a herd of elephants on the roof”
” The hospital beds and equipment were shaking”……
The children have also been following the daily news reports of the volcanic eruption on the Spanish island of La Palma. They have written their own newspaper reports for The Holmwood Herald!!….hot off the press!!
DISASTER!…VOLCANO ERUPTS! LAVA IN LA PALMA! ERUPTION DESTRUCTION! LOSS ON LA PALMA! VOLCANO DISASTER DAY! VOLCANO GOES KABOOM!
