Passion, skill, determination and resilience were all on show as the Under 9 football team came away overall winners of the annual Under 9 Football Festival at Littlegarth School, on 1 November. This came as a result of an excellent first half of term. The boys had performed well in all of their matches leading into the tournament and remained undefeated with a draw and 4 victories putting them in a confident mood going into the festival. Training and matches had been going well with players given the opportunity to try and practise the different skills needed for various positions. This has helped establish a strong team that knows its roles and responsibilities within a match situation. This was obvious for all to see with players holding their team shape to create space for their team mates.
Holmwood played 5 group matches in the Festival, winning 4 and drawing 1 without conceding a single goal. Holmwood played Heathlands in the final ( the team they had drawn against earlier in the festival). Holmwood took a 2 goal lead early in the game but Heathland’s pulled a goal back to create a tense final few minutes. The Holmwood defence stood strong and Holmwood ran out 2-1 winners to lift the trophy and the end of a fantastic afternoon of football.
The squad consisted of: George D, Stanley J,Tobey E, Ted L, George B, Fabio C, Uriel J, Jayden O & Bertie H. Well done to all of the boys.
