Reception children have been enjoying their weekly Natural World sessions in The Spinney. Their first session involved playing hide and seek with Peter Rabbit and his friends! The children used their tick sheets to mark off each time they found a Beatrix Potter character hiding amongst the trees and bushes. They then played their own game of hide and seek with a partner.
This week the children have been making a meal for Mr Tod in the mud kitchen and mud painting using stencils to design a handkerchief for Benjamin Bunny (he needs a handkerchief for collecting vegetables from Mr McGregor’s garden!)
For the remaining half term we will continue to use Beatrix Potter as a focus to learn about woodland animals. Last week, we spoke about where Jeremey Fisher the frog and Jemima Puddle Duck might live and why. The children then worked as a team to explore which natural materials floated to use for a raft for Jeremey Fisher. They also used the natural resources to build a nest for Jemima Puddle Duck’s eggs. Over the next coming weeks we will go conker collecting just like Squirrel Nutkin. We will also speak about hibernation and create our own Mrs Tiggy-Winkle hedgehog from clay and other natural resources. I am sure our new water butt will be put to good use by the children as well! The children have done really well developing their listening and reasoning skills.
