From the Headmaster…

Posted: 6th September 2021

Dear Parents,

Being the new boy is a lot of fun especially when your PA allows you free rein in your diary to wander around the site, pop into younger pupils’ lessons, and chat to parents. Being with the new Reception parents at the start, and end of the day, as their children had their first day at school was very special. Day one had many highlights but the best element was the sheer buzz around the yard and the Garden Block. The joy that the pupils had at seeing each other and playing together was incredibly pleasing. I look forward, over the coming week, to getting into more lessons with older pupils to see the learning.

I very much believe that parents, pupils and teachers work in partnership. COVID has played a part in creating more channels (online forums, new mediums of communication) for this, but it is something I have always believed – the diagram below is something I have definitely seen work well throughout 20 years of teaching. As a result we are looking at how parents’ evenings operate, how we can better support you at home with reading or numeracy, and pupil wellbeing. More will follow as the term goes on.

We are also trialling the pick up arrangements over the coming weeks to best ease this process for you, to encourage our partnership with you, and to re-establish the physical community element of being a Holmwood parent. Please do use the opportunity to catch members of the leadership team or form tutors if you would like.  There are also a number of ‘Meet the Headmaster’ dates to be circulated soon and I look forward to meeting you then.
