Following the cancellation of both the 2020 and 2021 IAPS clay pigeon shooting competitions a clay pigeon event was held at Birch Estate on the morning of Saturday 8 May (with COVID-safe measures in place, and permitted as an organised sport).
Thirteen children from Years 5, 6, 7 & 8, (and two intrepid staff members) took part. To say the weather was unkind is something of an understatement! Torrential, lashing rain, wind and cold tested everyone and made shooting extra difficult. However the children carried on, everyone hit some clays, and enjoyed themselves trying to hit air rifle targets. It was tricky to keep score on the impossible-to-write-on-whilst-
When the fathers who were kindly helping eventually complained of wellies full of water (and some children could no longer feel their hands) we called it a morning. We were all very thankful to Mr Cook and Mr White for bringing along one of the fantastic Holmwood House sports gazebos, bought by Friends of Holmwood House. In true Holmwood spirit the children – though soaked through and freezing – were all still smiling at the end.
