The pupils created masks for different characters in the Tempest, and acted in roles to develop character empathy skills and understanding.
Year 5 have been studying The Tempest this term and, with the aim of immersing them in the language and drama of Shakespeare and nurturing a love of this cornerstone of their culture, they have had huge fun trying out some selected scenes this week:
“If by your art, my dearest father, you have
Put the wild waters in this roar, allay them.”
“As thou got’st Milan,
I’ll come by Naples. Draw thy sword!”
“Full fathom five thy father lies…”
“I might call him
A thing divine, for nothing natural
I ever saw so noble.”
“We are such stuff
As dreams are made on, and our little life
Is rounded with a sleep.”
“I really enjoyed acting out the Shakespeare scenes. I do a lot of reading so I didn’t find the language too difficult at all.” Charlie P
“Making masks was fun and arty. We also did some acting with the masks. It was fun.” Sadhika R
“I really enjoyed it because I love acting and drama. I think Shakespeare is really interesting.” Lucie B
