Dear Parents
What a wonderful week in school! We have had around 76% of the pupils in school from Years to 8 and an increasing number at the nursery and Pre-R. The atmosphere in both settings has been lovely and the children have demonstrated such wonderful qualities as patience and understanding; even the littlest ones.
Our Year 8s have pitched camp on the front lawn and the spirit has been one of relaxed teamwork and warm camaraderie. Miss Godman has put together a super programme for their Challenge Weeks which, this week, has seen highlights such as Bridge Building (using spaghetti!) and a superb Inter-Element Debating Competing, organised and led by Mrs Mitchell, vying for the Thorpe Debating Cup. Earlier today, we enjoyed the ‘Test to Destruction’ part of the bridge building process and I can reveal the winning bridge took a weight of 2.4kg before it hit the dust!
We are very much looking forward to the Virtual Summer Concert which will be live streamed this evening at 7pm. You will be sent joining details in a separate email. My thanks to those children involved and to Mr Cortes for pulling it all together – virtually.
I am thrilled with the way our staff have yet again demonstrated their ‘can do’ attitude; something ever-present throughout this crisis. The children clearly feed off this positivity and have shown some of the great qualities we espouse at Holmwood; resilience, independence, engagement, commitment and passion.
Looking ahead to the end of term, we are planning to stream a virtual Prize Giving and Speech Day. Social distancing sadly means we cannot all be together to celebrate the children’s immense achievements but we hope everyone will sit down to enjoy an e-celebration at the same time. We will send more details in due course. The Year 8s will have the opportunity to enjoy a final overnight stay with a BBQ in the final week.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
With best wishes
Alexander Mitchell
