Dear Parents

It has been so busy at Holmwood in the past week or so! Last Friday’s Friends of Holmwood Quiz was a huge success.  The questions, created and collated by the Grout and Bartlett parents, were cleverly crafted around Air, Land, Water, 3Cs, 5Rs and my name!  The Talbot Room was full and the atmosphere was excellent.  A great night was had by all.

Saturday’s Taster Morning was well attended and hugely appreciated by the 20 or families in attendance.  My thanks to the staff who volunteer to run these events supporting the excellent work of Abigail Wills as Admissions Registrar. Our next Open Morning is on Friday 20 March between 9.30 and 11.30am.  Do let friends know about it and ask them to register online via the website.

Years 7 & 8 enjoyed a fun-filled night of Cops & Robbers on Monday evening thanks to Mrs De Voy and the boarding team.  The children love these events and really appreciate the effort put in by our staff.

Years 4 & 5 pupils have worked extremely well this week in preparation for their performance of ‘What a Knight!’  Whilst not involved in particular scenes during the rehearsal process, the children worked incredibly diligently on their projects using Chromebooks in the Talbot Room to be on hand for their time on stage.  We have been really impressed by their maturity and scholarly approach to learning in this way.  As a result of Mrs Mayhew’s spinal surgery, Mrs Mitchell stepped in to direct and produce this year’s show.  On top of everything else, she has created a superb production involving every child in the two year groups and delivering a fabulous finished product, which I am sure you will agree, really hit the spot.  My thanks to her and her team; Mr Cortes (Musical Director), Mrs Denny (costumes), Miss Godman (scenery and production support) and Mrs De Voy (specific costumes). Of course, other members of the team, including our maintenance team, have helped support this enormous undertaking.  Well done, team!

The Year 3s enjoyed their first major sports event.  The U8 Tag Rugby Festival and Netball Tournament is always an annual favourite and this year was no exception. The children really showed their sportsmanship on field and court and we were very proud of all their efforts.  My thanks to Mrs Goldring, Mr Lesiak and the team for making this such a successful event.

We are keeping up with guidance from the government about the Coronavirus outbreak.  Please do ensure you read the emails we send out as well as the links to the advice and guidance.  We will continue to keep you updated but in the meantime, we take a low level, calm approach to the situation to ensure staff, children and parents are well-informed but not frightened by what can be somewhat hyped media coverage.

Wishing you all a good weekend.

Best wishes

Alexander Mitchell
