Holmwood House Pupils Triumph at the World Scholar’s Cup in Qatar!
Our incredible pupils have returned triumphant from the World Scholar’s Cup in Doha, Qatar, showcasing their academic prowess and bringing home an array of impressive achievements! After qualifying in the regional round in Surrey back in March, 11 of our pupils spent two weeks competing against thousands of scholars from around the globe.
Outstanding Successes
We are thrilled to announce that three of our teams have qualified for the prestigious Tournament of Champions at Yale University! This is an exceptional accomplishment, and we couldn’t be prouder of their hard work and dedication. While the full breakdown of individual and team successes will be celebrated in an upcoming assembly, it’s clear that every single pupil excelled, contributing significantly to their teams’ outstanding performances.
Coach of the Year Award
A special congratulations goes to Mr. Collins, who was awarded the highly coveted Coach of the Year award by the World Scholar’s Cup organisers. This recognition is a testament to his unwavering commitment and expert guidance, which undoubtedly played a crucial role in our pupils’ success.
A World of Experiences Beyond the Competition
Beyond the intense academic challenges of collaborative writing, debating, and the Scholar’s Bowl, our pupils embraced the opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich culture of Qatar and connect with peers from across the globe.
During their well-deserved days off, they explored a variety of attractions, including a thrilling theme park, the fascinating Sports Museum, a beautiful mosque, and the mind-bending Museum of Illusions. They also embarked on an unforgettable desert safari to the Inland Sea and visited other museums, soaking up every last bit of local culture before their departure.
A true highlight was the cultural fair, where our pupils proudly ran a UK food stall. They introduced the delightful tastes of traditional British sweets and biscuits to 58 different nationalities, while also enjoying the chance to sample an incredible array of international cuisines themselves.
Making friends from around the world and sharing these amazing experiences has undoubtedly broadened their horizons and created lasting memories. Mr. Collins, Mrs. Jeffery, and Mrs. Collins are immensely proud of all the pupils and their remarkable achievements, both inside and outside the competition. Our pupils have now safely returned home, eager to share their inspiring stories!
