Fun in the Science Lab
Hurrah – it’s fantastic to be able to actually get ‘hands on’ in the lab. Year 8 have been looking into the reactivity series this week and are really enjoying being back in the lab.

In science and technology, Year 2 were challenged to make a tunnel that either they or an object could travel through. They came up with some ingenious structures, of all shapes and sizes, using different types of paper. It was great fun, especially trying them out at the end!
Outdoor Learning – Melting Ice This week Year 2 took advantage of the snowy weather to do an investigation into how to make ice melt faster. They had some interesting results and found that salt or warm water were the best ways. Very useful to know at the moment! Science – Building Paper Bridges To…
In Global Studies and Science Year 2 were challenged to investigate whether they could make a tower with just sheets of A4 paper. No sellotape, scissors or glue allowed! The results were amazing. Some of the towers were taller than the children themselves!
Year 2 Maths This week and last week Year 2 have been working very hard on doubling multiplication and division in Maths. They have been using all sorts of things to help them – bricks, cubes and pasta! A brilliant effort by all! Year 2 Science This week in Year 2 we were learning how…
Our busy scientists have been making a mucky model of the digestive system today. Can you guess what each bit represents?
Home learning doesn’t stop us from doing experiments in science. Today we were looking at different states and materials changing from solids to liquids by melting ice and making cornflake/crispie cakes using the ideas of melting and freezing. 3B did a great job of turning their kitchens into laboratories; we even managed to do it…
Year 6 completed a dissection where they got hands on with the parts of the circulatory and respiratory system. Pupils gave mixed reactions to the various parts of the systems and enjoyed (ish) feeling the textures of the various organs. They then watched how to dissect a heart, identifying the parts as they went and…
Year 2 have been investigating paper as part of our science topic on Materials. Father Christmas had asked the children to find out which would be the strongest paper to wrap all the presents in! We tested the strength of different types of paper by seeing how many 100g weights they could hold. We will…
Year 8 scientists have been looking at patterns of reactivity including how metals react when heated. Magnesium always sparks and ignites!
