Science Quiz Club

We entered two teams into the Science Quiz Club this week, one from Year 5 and one from Year 6.  Both teams did fantastically well and showed some great team work . Excitingly, the Year 5 team of  Benedict C, Elise C, Charlie P and Jesse O achieved the second highest score (1800 points) across all…

Year 3 Science – Light & Dark

What will happen to our shadows?  Year 3 have been investigating light, shadows and transparency this term and have been using their reasoning skills to predict what will happen to their shadows!

Year 5 Science – Talking Robots

Curious to find out how they could make their Lego speak, Year 5 set about using their reasoning skills.  They looked at some algorithms and computational thinking and here is the result…

Year 1 Science – Parachutes

Bravely battling quite windy conditions Year 1 persevered with their parachute experiment.  As part of their new topic ‘Splendid Skies’ they had to observe carefully, then use their reasoning skills to predict how they thought their parachutes would fall.  Once outside they tested their predictions and made some adaptations to their designs.

Year 8 Science

Curious about what their cells actually look like, Year 8 decided it was time to get the microscopes out. Methylene blue was used to stain cells obtained from their own cheek swabs!

Year 3 Science – Seeds

Igniting Wonder – 3LT can’t wait to see what delicious vegetables their seeds will grow into. Year 1 launched their bean growing challenge and Year 3 pupils sowed a variety of seeds that Mrs Bradbury acquired from The Big Grow, a collaboration between Innocent drinks and the social enterprise ‘Grow It Yourself’ promoting growing food…

Year 6 – Life on Mars

Mars has really sparked curiosity across Phase 3, so much so it has been reeking havoc with Mr Cook’s lesson planning!  The children have been incredibly resourceful designing their own space bases, so if they ever find themselves holidaying on Mars in the future they will have a very luxurious place to stay! Here is…

Year 4 Science – Mars

Our intrepid scientists continue to have their curiosity sparked about space and the Perseverance rover with investigations about Mars this week. The pupils carried out an experiment to find out what affects the size of craters made by meteorites on Mars, looking at the size and mass of the ‘meteorites’ as well as the height…

How Does Light Travel?
